Only the United States Marine Corps or the Boy Scouts of America is able to conduct a flag burning legally. The purpose of the ceremony is to "retire" our most precious symbol in a blaze of glory, instead of allowing moth, rust and decay to do it their way. |

One of America's strangest ceremonies: An officially sanctioned burning of the United States Flag. Conducted this Monday evening at the doorstep of the Sherwood Heritage Center.
