The word "oneiric" (based upon an ancient Greek word, oneiros. "a dream.") always comes to mind when I visit Champoeg,
When you ask a State of Oregon employee at Champoeg "What makes this place so special?" ... the answer will be filled with fits and starts.
That difficulty is exactly what makes the job of Re-enactor so important. You just had to be there!
I think that the story of "Who's for the Divide?" is still a good one. No, they were not voting to become an American State, but still they were wanting some sort of government to take care of all the usual social problems.
