This house stood on the right hand side of the filling station. It and the Feed Store in back were standing until fairly recently. Those cabins on the far-most right have been beautifully restored and still exist! |  |

The truck offers two (probably hand lettered) signs as clues to the mystery of just what year a person named "Ruth Smith" took these photos. 6. As the 1939 Road Map of Oregon suggests, there weren't many highways heading North and South when these photos were taken. Kjarvestad. Where did these people come from? That itself is interesting. The Smith Family had these pictures. How does that fit into the story of 6-Corners?
I lived just four houses down from Kjarvestads. I remember walking through that doorway many times to ask for a "Hamburger with Everything On It!" Lillian Lay would reply: "The kitchen sink too?" She and Alma K. started selling pies out of there during the war. She was Alma Kline later on, when the restaurant expanded into Klines Sherwood Forest and then the Sherwood Peddler.
What about the architecture of these
houses? 1930s 1940s??? They look like the same people may have built them.
The year, make and model of those motorized vehicles should be a place to start. It would be a great photo to introduce around during Cruisin' Sherwood.
It is so hard to remember what that world was like in living color. Here are some examples!

When did 6 corners started?
The name "Six Corners" comes from the fact that Highway 99 crosses a point where two other roads used to cross each other. Shari's Restaurant stands on one of those corners today. If you stand near Sharis, you can see how Langer Drive and Borchers Drive were changed so they would not cross Highway 99 anymore.

Please remember to go to "Cruisin' Sherwood." That's when Old Sherwood Town fills up with old antique cars. Big time! It happens in the month of June. Not sure the date.
I think the car in the gas station is a 41 Chevrolet convertible...and Cruisin Sherwood is the second Saturday in June.
