Thanksgiving is the celebration of a very positive historical incident that happened between some white people and the Native Americans a long, long time ago. In retrospect, the Native Americans now have little to be thankful for. However, for the sake of the European immigrants, both now and then, there is much to be thankful for, and in many ways it is a humbling holiday. The symbols are a part of the historic story which represent exactly what they are as opposed to other holidays where the icons are more symbolic than tangible. We eat a game bird with food of the forest forage: nuts and berries. May we ever observe these humble beginnings. --John Brown
